Frogs in our popcorn

Like many of you, we have not been spared this winter. We have had colds, lots of them. Benjamin colds that get passed on to Andrew and I. Back-to-back-to-back colds. Long, drawn out colds that never seem to truly end before the next one is upon us. So we have taught Ben the expression "To have a frog in your throat." He gets it. He totally gets it. He knows that there aren't real frogs in his throat, and he uses the expression correctly every time he tries to clear his throat but it stays phlegmy. He will recognize that characteristic noise we make when we try to clear our own throats and say "Mommy, you have a frog in your throat!" with a big grin on his face.

------

Ben fell on the ice face first yesterday. Cut up the inside of his lip, banged up the outside of his lip and his gums around his top front teeth pretty badly. Since then he has had a hard time biting into things, understandably. So when he woke up from his nap this afternoon hungry and grumpy, a screeched "It's going to hurt my teeth!" launched my way with every snack suggestion I came up with, I decided to offer him something I have never fed him before: popcorn.
"Popcorn?"
"Yes, popcorn. It won't hurt your teeth."
"It won't hurt my teef? Ok..."
Aha! He was intrigued. So we are sitting on the sofa, eating popcorn, and he keeps having to clear his throat. He clears his throat a couple of times, then looks at me and says, "Mom, there are frogs in my popcorn!"
